Dr Ruth Keenan
Principal Clinical Psychologist (adults and adolescents)
Dr Ruth Keenan is a warm and compassionate clinician with over 20 years of experience working within a range of services including adult, child and adolescent mental health services, a specialist trauma service and maternity and neonatal services. She is skilled in helping people to make sense of difficult experiences, using a range of models and believes that it is important to find a good fit between you and your therapist.  Following an initial exploration of what you are hoping for, she will guide you through the creation of a psychological understanding (formulation) of what you are struggling with. This process can in itself be therapeutic. She will then work with you to develop skills in managing difficult thoughts, feelings and situations and in exploring and implementing change.  She is trained in a range of evidence-based interventions including CBT, Trauma Focussed CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and has an interest in more integrative models such as Schema Therapy.Â
Ruth also has extensive experience in providing supervision to other clinicians and in delivering teaching and training, both within the NHS and other sectors.Â
Ruth is a qualified Clinical Psychologist holding a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC PYL 15851) Ruth currently works with adults and young people aged 12 and over and can offer either face to face or online sessions. She is experienced in working with a range of difficulties including anxiety, adjustment to life changes, PTSD and Complex PTSD, difficulties with emotional regulation and low mood.
